▶ Your Answer : Movies are considered as one of the most viewed entertainment among people. Movies give a variety of inspirations, themes, and motifs to the people, and due to this, there are actually quite number of people whose lives are greatly influenced by the movies. Movies also tell a lot about a country. First, the background or the locations of the filming clearly demonstrates how one country is like. Next, sometimes, the movies, especially the epic or historical ones, greatly portray the history of a country.
As I have stated earlier, the movies are one of the most entertaining mass media. As a result, the movie industry tried to create films that would highly satisfy the audiences while the audiences demand high-quality ones. One of the ways to create such high-quality films is to have an extraordinary background. It will not only grasp the attention from the audiences, but it will also benefit the areas where the filming has gone. By allowing the movie industries to film their movies in a certain country, the country is actually advertising itself without paying any expenses. The audiences will just watch a movie and may think of visiting the country. In fact, the recent Bourne series movie grasped many audiences due to their various foreign locations, and the Philippines had a great opportunity to tell a lot about themselves, including the jeepneys and sari-sari stores (mini groceries that only exist in the Philippines). In a nutshell, the movies are becoming a sort of medium that promotes one or more countries’ cultures.
In addition, the movie itself naturally talks about a certain country because of its genre. The historical or epic movies allow the audiences to understand one’s history and values. For example, the movies ‘Argo’ and ‘Lincoln’ gave a great opportunity to audiences to learn about the Iranian hostage crisis and Abraham Lincoln. They might be focusing on one specific event or person; however, it is for sure that the audiences were able to learn many things about the countries that were involved in the movie. For instance, I did not quite have any background information of the country of Iran. But after watching ‘Argo’, I was able to understand that Iran was a strict conservative and a fundamentalist country.
In conclusion, the movies greatly talk about a country, which gives the audiences the further opportunity to study and learn about them. The movies do not only serve as free advertisements of certain countries, but as professors of countries’ histories as well. Although the primary goal of the movies is to entertain people, people should also consider the countries appearing in the films. |
