The news media is a reliable source of unbiased information
Some people argue that news media give gives us consistent and trustworthy information. However, I believe that news media can give us biased information leading us to have wrong understanding. This is because news media can be affected by the benefit of stakeholders, and news can be wrong sometimes.
To begin with, news media are is likely to be influenced by stakeholders' benefit. To be specific, most news stations, before they decide to report news, consider whether there is any potential victim among their stakeholders. In this vein, some part of news can be replaced and edited for the sake of the safety of stakeholders. For instance, there was a huge political scandal last year in Korea. Some of politicians were suspected of interfering to interfere with their children's admission process. Since it was the first case in Korea, the news did gather nationwide spotlights, and most people paid attention to the news. However, except the first day of the news, it was hard to hear what was going on the scandal. It turned out most news stations decided not to broadcast the topic because most of politicians were principal stockholders of each news company.
In addition, news can be wrong sometimes. Since news is also produced by the hands of people, it is unavoidable to see some mistakes on it. Some news may include incorrect information, and others are likely to be imprecise. For instance, there was a report of the missing children last year in Seoul. The news caster reported that the children did not come back after school, and police officers were trying to check most potential places they would possibly go. Ironically, all of the children was in the library in school, and they were having class. It was prank of some middle school students, but news caster did not confirm the validity of source.
To sum up, news can deliver biased information because news stations consider the benefit of stakeholders, and news sometimes can be imprecise leading people to make a wrong judgment. For these reasons, I believe that news is not the channel that we can fully give our trust and depend on.
