Nowadays, sports take a major part in education since it is directly related to enhancing one’s physical and mental strength. Some people prefer playing individual sports since it is easier to make time for than team sports and it helps ‘finding pleasure and peace in solitude’. However, I believe playing sports with teammates help us improve our inner abilities more than individual sports.
Above all, playing team sports teaches how to join and act as a member of society well. Unlike playing sports alone, being in a team means one would have to carry a burden called responsibility with oneself. One would have to perform a duty given, and fight the opposing team by cooperating with teammates. Through the process, children may learn how to bring out the organizational power as a member of it. And by practicing it from early ages, they would be able to act flexibly and in an experienced way when it comes to bigger societies, such as the workplace, that they are going to face when they get older.
Secondly, the enthusiasm of playing sports may be doubled as well. There is a Korean saying, ‘Joy is doubled and sadness is halved when shared’. It would be a really meaningful time for the team to hug each other and share the excitement after winning the game, since the victory would mean that all each and all of them showed ‘what a team-play’ means well. Also, even when the team has lost, one’s teammates wouldn’t blame a specific person if they’re sure they all performed their best; they would encourage each other and raise the morale of the team, since that’s what team is for.
For these reasons, I would rather prefer team sports than individual sports. |
