▶ Your Answer :
It is debatable whether it is better to
learn many skills than to specialize in one skill if you want to succeed. This
is an intriguing question because opinions concerning this issue can be
different depending on the individual perspectives. However, in my opinion, I
strongly disagree with the idea for two reasons, which I will explore in the
following essay.
To begin with, being
a specialist in one skill is more efficient. To be specific, learning one skill
and field requires a lot of money. It means that if people are taught various
skills, they should pay much more money on learning those. For instance, there
was a survey conducted by Bill’s Study Center with 300 university students who
took double major as respondents. The purpose was to understand whether they
think it is less effective than doing a double major. Undoubtedly, 80% of
respondents said that doing one major is more efficient because they spent too
much money on two majors.
On top of that,
people can gain more understanding in one field. Specifically, when people do
several works or studies, they cannot concentrate on their study of the task. However,
if they specialized in one skill, they can get profound knowledge. I will give
my grandfather’s experience as an example. He was the best physics professor in
Seoul National University. Since he was 10 years old, he had never stopped
learning about physics because he really loved the subject. Thus, he had
focused on the field for 40 years and became one of the best professors in
Korea.
To sum up, it is
more efficient to gain one skill than learn a number of skills. Moreover,
deeper knowledge can be offered to people, if they concentrate on one field. In
this regard, I strongly disagree with the idea that specializing in various
subjects can make people more successful than in one field. |
