▶ Topic : Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
At universities and colleges, sports and social activities are just as important as classes and libraries and should receive equal financial support. |
|
|
▶ Your Answer :
As sustainable
education has been considered important with considering student's academic
performance and their high quality of life, the importance of extra activities has been highlighted in these days. With this understanding, some people think
that sports and social activities must receive equal financial supports as
classes and libraries. However, I disagree with this statement for the following reasons.
To begin with,
an activity in sport and social clubs does not require as much money as classes and libraries. In general, the budgets for general classes
include providing office supplies such as expensive electronic device like
computer and beam projector. In the case of libraries, the school must buy a
vast number of books and facilities for convenient usage of a library.
Otherwise, sports activities require a few of tools and low-cost equipment,
while big and expensive facilities are already available in all school, such
as gym and playground. Likewise, students in social activities need a small
financial support to invite an eminent speaker or to prepare a general student
meeting. For example, when I worked (시제 -> 과거) at a social activity, I acted a role of was the financial manager. So, I was aware that unexpectedly small financial supports
were required for any activities. Thus, it is redundant to increase the
supporting for these activities. (university 와 관련된 사례를 들어주셔야 합니다. 그리고 금액을 제시하시는 거라면 구체적인 액수가 있으면 좋습니다.)
On top of that,
spending more money on financial supporting for sport and social activities is
unfair policy with considering other students who do not like to work at both activity club. Social and sport activities are not a common preference
among all students. For the reason, financially aiding for specific school
members might be too risky and assessed as an unfair policy. For example, the
Seoul Educational Research and Survey Center reported a data that only 30
percent of male students and 20 percent of female students enjoy sport
activities. The rates in social activities are even lower. Furthermore, student
having passions on these two activities usually are (동사 필요) motivated by their own
interests. Thus, there is no validity for supporting these personal favorites
with public budgets. It implies that extra support on social and sports
activities with an amount of money considerable to classes and libraries is nor
reasonable.
To sum up, I believe that spending money more on supporting social and
sports activities is not reasonable. As I mentioned above, these two activities do
not need a lot of money as much as classes and libraries. Also, using school
budgets on a personal interest is regarded unfair for other students who do
not enjoy those activities .
