It is debatable whether people can judge a person's character only with the first impressions. This is an intriguing question because opinions concerning this can be different relying on individual perspectives. In my opinion, however, I believe that people cannot evaluate a person at first sight for the following subsequent two reasons.
To begin with, people cannot know about every aspect of a person by the first impressions. It is really difficult to understand a person within a very short time. If we believe someone without discretion, it might cause a negative result to us. this is because our belief perseverance is not likely to change easily. For example, when I was a university student, I accidentally met a stranger in front of my room in the dormitory. I remembered that she was kind and pretty. After that first meeting, I hung out with her for a month. I thought that we became a friend. However, her real objective was to steal my money, and I was nearly stolen my money by her. If I had counted on her completely, I would have lost all of my money.
On top of that, people can deceive their external appearance. This can be controlled easily if we try to do that. Not only that, most people have a difference between the first impression and the real one. For instance, when I was a freshman, I became a lier. In fact, I was an introvert and I preferred to stay alone. However, I pretended to be an extrovert and talked loudly and participated in a club on purpose because I just wanted to make friends. My friends did not know that I actually had the opposite character until the end of the semester. This demonstrates how easily we can conceal by ourselves.
In a nutshell, it is impossible for people to know about others at first sight. Moreover, it is easy for most people to behave differently when they meet new people for the first time. In this regard, I firmly believe that we cannot judge others only with the first impressions. |
