오늘날 사람들이 외모를 너무 강조한다는 거에 너는 동의하니? |
Some people say that as our society has been developed comes to be a meritocracy, the top-priority criterion to judge someone is what he or she is able to do with proficiency, not appearance. However, I strongly believe that people, nowadays, put too much stress on looking. The rationale behind this is that people spend a lot of money and time to groom their appearance and innately tend to judge others by their looking. First of all, people are willing to spend a greater amount of money and financial resources than before. Some people replace a wardrobe completely annually to keep up with current fashion trend even if the clothes in the old wardrobe have no problem in functioning as a clothe. In addition, women’s one of the most top-concerning items is cosmetics. Women do not hesitate to pay steep prices for newly developed cosmetic products as long as they have better functions to keep skin young and healthy. The best example of emphasis on appearance is a plastic surgery. It is not hard to hear the news that someone died while being under plastic surgery procedures and someone is suffering from the side effect of the surgery. They are willing to pay a significant amount of time and money and even take the risk pains and losing their lives. These trends best show people’s tendency to put too much concerns on how they look. Next, we are innately judging others based on their looking and clothes they are wearing. In our society, there is more and more support the notion that having a good looking brings a competitive advantage to be successful. For example, having a good looking is better rather than having a good voice to succeed as a singer. There are not a few numbers of Korean singers who are not as skillful as singers who failed to draw public attention due to their looks. In today’s music industry appearance is the key element to commercial success. In sum, based on the tendency that people are willing to pay significant money and time for making their looks better and judge others innately, nowadays, people put too much weight on appearance. As we cannot estimate a book simply by its cover, we need to realize that beauty is only skin deep. |
