We easily see a group of people marching down the streets with slogans that say "one species, one planet, one future.". They protest over the issue of conservation of the endangered or threatened species throughout the world. Many restrictions have been made as a result of the continuous street demonstrations but nothing actually seems to be changed. Arctic region, for example, has already lost almost one tenth of its land and polar bears and many other sea animals have lost their main source of food as well. Then what should be done in response to this situation? The paragraph below will give some alternative ways to protect those animals from the potential danger of being extinct.
Phoca groenlandica, also known as fur seal, is one of the most endangered animals living in arctic region. Numbers of them got killed by many illegal hunters for the advancement of fur business and so called "regulations" the government made seem like they don't affect them at all. Not to mention that the number of them has decreased significantly, other animals like polar bears that used to eat phoca groenlandicas mainly are suffering from lack of food. In order to protect them from being extinct, we should not only reinforce the regulations regarding the conservation of the endangered animals like phoca groenlandicas and others but also improve people's awareness that such animals are getting killed for one certain groups of people's profit.
Then, why is it important to keep them alive? why do we have to draw a line and keep illegal hunters away from it? What can we do about it when they suddenly die because of the abrupt climate change? The answer for all these questions is because they affect us a lot. For example, coral reefs are famous for their natural ability to purify dirty water and oil into clean ones. They play a role in controlling the temperature of the ocean and benefit much of the tiny creatures living deep in sea. However, as some people found that they are disturbing in the construction of a tourist sightseeings, they began to root them out. And in consequence, the ocean became vulnerable to any disasters. Thereby, if a oil transfer ship accidentally spill the oil into the ocean, the ocean and the organisms living in the area have a hard time dealing with the unwashable oil spill. And also, in this century where global warming is a main concern for almost all of the countries, nothing will be able to control the rising temperature of the ocean. Of course, some of scientists might say that that kind of disaster can be immediately removed by the new technology however it won't be easy to remove all the layers of oil on the sea and will take so much time. For another example, to deal with the recent oil spill on Mexican Gulf coast, the scientists proposed a new technology that can make the ocean self-purify itself. Regardless of the continuous effort to wash them out, little was done for the effort. Naturally, the oil spill will be gone by the time pass but what i want to say is that if we had protected the endangered species of animals like coral reefs and many others before, then we might not have needed to waste our money on developing those expensive machines and have been benefited in the end.
To conclude, like i mentioned above, it is important to keep endangered species away from the death because they can benefit us in the long run. So if i were up to choose one thing between serving my life protecting those lives for the good of everyone and enjoying myself in the tourist attractions not caring about any of these things, i will unhesistatingly pick the former one. |
