Difference between soccer and basketball |
Soccer and basketball, both of them are attractive to people nowadays. We can easily realized that those two sports became popular between people because we watch all the soccer and basketball matches with television and also go to stadium to see. There are several differences between soccer and basketball based on the rules such as the way players have a match or positions and rate of goals. However, we need to know about the rules for both of them to watch a match or tournament. Otherwise, we are not able to understand the match or tournament.
First of all, basketball is based on totally different rate of goals. While each goal values one point for soccer, there are different rates depend on the distance for basketball. Usually, there are two points and three points. However, when we get a chance to take shoots by a foul, the each shoot values one point. As you know, the soccer field is much bigger than the basketball court, so it is hardly to get a goal in a soccer game. It is just my guess but this is the reason why soccer’s goal rate is less than basketball.
In addition, players use their hands for basketball but it is not possible to use hands except special cases such as throwing or goal keeper. Even though soccer players cannot use their hands, goalkeeper is allowed to use whole body. On the other hand, basketball players never use their foot. There is no such a case. Therefore, it is pretty much different compare to soccer. To illustrate, soccer and basketball players use totally different way of dribbling or shooting. I think the way of play game or the size of place made players to use different tools from their bodies.
On top of that, while there is a goalkeeper for soccer, there is no such a thing for basketball. This could be the most different thing between those two sports. Even though there are different positions, every player can be defense or attack for basketball. However, mostly, the goalkeepers use to block a goal for soccer. Of course, defense sometimes helps the goalkeeper but mostly not. As I mentioned from body 2, the goalkeeper is able to use hands and foot both. The possible reason I can guess why a goalkeeper can use every part from body is because the size of the goal is big. I believe that having a goalkeeper could be one of the biggest reasons why soccer is so attractive sport.
To sum up, there are several differences such as how to play or the different rates of goals, and also different positions between soccer and basketball. There are some similarities too like both of them having referees or the same way we score and so on. However, I think those two are totally different sports and soccer is much more attractive for me. |
