Food crisis, water crisis, and continuing war. We live in the era of intimidation and fear. As sophisticated our society is, it carries numerous problems as well. Considering social and environmental factors we have in planet earth, it is downright absurd for the government to extend funding for outer space.
A scrupulous government strives to settle down the social chaos in their country. Even the most wealthy nation, United States, suffers from myriads of internal problems. Squandering money for exploiting the space is not a wise decision. Instead, extending aids to people in need is the apt place for that money to go. For example, China, a country that has recently been committed to space exploration carries great tragedies. Ethnic conflict, unstabilized economy, and citizens agitated by the abruptly moving society are the most severe crisis. Worse is when we take a closer look into the society and perceive the demanding routines of the citizens. Save the people first.
Our society has benefited, however, also has been threatened by the development of technology. Despite the innovative inventions that have brought comfort to us, serious environmental problems have aroused. Environmental issues needs to be addressed first. This is impending because innumerable health problems ensue pollution. Thus, today is not the moderate time to develop outer space; it is time to quickly figure out solutions to prevent further damage in our environment. For instance, water pollution due to imprudent waste dumping of nearby industries in Korea, has wiped out previous eco-friendly habitats for fish. Such incidents still continue, and investing in exploring the space only hinders the government to address problems we have at hand.
Social and environmental matters are imment issues to be settled. Space exploration must proceed after our society lives at peace. Is it not the time we increase funding in helping out the poors and investing in infastructure for alternative energy resources?
