I basically do not agree with the statement that teachers are more influential than freinds. Comparing the importance of having teachers and friends are incomparable because both of them influence us in different territories. Teachers are more mature in mental level from their life experiences, and friends can share our agonies because they are spending a lot of time with us and more likely to understand each others' values. I conjecture that the importance on both teachers and friends are equally weighed.
Most times, teachers provide us guidances in our studying and choosing a path for future with their abundant experiences from their lives. In discussing education plan, teachers are likely to be better counsellors while friends might not meet our expectations to evidently answer our problems. Although that friends can share problems, teachers are often the ones who have more possible solution for the problems we struggle from. When I had hard time with getting to know myself I had a teacher in my middle school, who used to talk to me with all the wisdoms that I still remember. He influenced me significantly with his thoughtful words that had taught me what kind of values I should, and want to hold on to, and eventually made me want to be a doctor without the reasons of prestige or money.
Living in a dormitory was a different situation from what I had experienced before my highschool life. I faced a greater chance to learn how to cope with my friends and lean on my friends. Some of them listened to me and felt sympathy, and I really cared for my friends who struggled from financial problems and family affairs. Having a diversity of friendsmade me think pensively about not only how to understand difference within a group, but also how to understand the diverging circumstances we might conflict against. Although your friends might not give a great wisdom, friends understnad the most about the problem you have because they are at your age, who might have the same problem as you do.
We have myriad people around us to have influence on us. It is impossible to say who is or is not more or less influencial because they are all important proportions of our lives. We listen to them, and learn from them. In some cases, teachers might be better advisors with good suggestions, and soemtimes friends might be better listeners who feel the same as we do. For these reasons above, I don't agree with weing more on one side toward teachers or friends. |
