In Korea, a study done regarding education has shown that over two thirds of the Korean population are trying to attend college or university. Why do people long for this?
People have the innate desire to learn and increase theri knowlege. This is supported by Montessori's theory about children's education. She asserted that every child and student wants to learn more. In other words, people instinctively long for increased knowledge. Thus, it is natural that people desire to receive higher education from college or university.
Also, our society offers a lot more benefits for people who have graduated from college or university than people who have not. This means that university graduation guarantees people's status in society. For example, Korean big enterprises likee Samsung or LG are not even interested in applicants who don't receive a diploma from university or college.
Moreover, people's attitude toward people who have higher education is very different from people who have not. When people encounter an argument between two students of the same age, the student attending university is favored. The student who will be looking for a job after highschool, and won't go university or college, must always apologize to a university student. This shows how society pushes the population to long for attending college or university.
In conclusion, it has been shown that people possess the innate desire for further learning. This, together with the society favoring higher education, makes students strive to apply for university or college. |
