Some people may argue that teachers can tell their personal view on social
issues when they teach students. However, I have a different idea. When it comes to the
statement that teachers should not make their social and political view known to
students in the class, I agree with it.
First, telling teachers' personal opinion in the class should not be allowed
because it can make their students have a biased and fixed view on social problems.
Putting it differently, as stduents are immature, they can't accept teachers'view
selectively or critically. Thus, it can be said that teachers should not mention their
personal view on social and political issues like presidental election not to make their
student have a biased and fixed view point. There is an example supporting this idea.
When I was a elementary school student, my teacher told me that communism is more
efficient than democracy in economical and political ways. At that time, most of students
in the class accepted the teacher's opinion without doubt and I told it to my parents. After
listening, my parents taught the difference between Democracy and Communism, as a
result, I got to know the risk of misunderstanding about ideologies in Korea, divided in
two countries.
In addition, teachers should not tell a view which they like the most because it
can make students hide their own view for better records. Putting it differently, in Korea,
as competition among students has become fiercer, many students tend to agree with
their teachers when they write an essay and research paper to get higher GPA. For
example, When I was a taking politics lecture, my classmate Tom and I wrote book
reviews. I wrote that SOFA between ROK and US is necessary and I got a "F" and the
professor said that it was becuase of my worng view on international relations. However,
Tom got an "A" because Tom agreed with the professor's view that SOFA is not nessary.
All in all, I strongly insist that teachers should not express their private view on
social and political issues when they give a lecture. |
