The reading passage asserts that wind power presents several disadvantages; however, the lecturer is skeptical about the passage, by stating that many problems have been solved due to the development in technology.
First of all, the lecturer argues that advanced technology allows the wind power to be an effective source of power. The reading passage explains that the wind power is not reliable because it greatly depends on the weather. In opposition to this hypothesis, the lecturer indicates that the solar and wind power interact with each other. For example, the wind power can generate electricity during at night or in stormy weather when the sunlight is not available.
Next, the speaker claims that the wind power does not have fuel cost and threat to environment. The article explains that this source of energy is not economically efficient. On the contrary, the lecturer states that given that the turbine is placed in good location that provides wind resource, its cost-efficiency is justifiable. Furthermore, farmers consider the wind power as valuable source since it promotes the countryside, the electricity company benefits from its low cost of installation.
Finally, the professor does not agree with the reading that large numbers of birds are killed by the turbine. However, the lecturer points out that there has been lots of endeavor to protect them. Many constructers attempt to locate taller wind power away from the animals. One research demonstrates that there would be 80 percent decrease in the numbers of birds killed if they build fewer and taller towers.
