It is believed that citizens have to pay public transportation fees, actually citizens have paid. However, I disagree with the above statement. Moreover, I think that the payment system of public transportation should be reformed fundamentally. There are many reasons, but two most important ones as follows. Firstly, a free ride is likely to result in more passengers, then cars in streets will decrease and traffic jam will be solved. Secondly, people especially commuters making use of pubic transportation such as bus and subway will save money.
To begin with, if people may take public transportation for nothing, they would prefer public transportation to their own cars. Accordingly, the number of cars in streets will dwindle. Then, the problem of a traffic congestion will be cleared considerably. Specifically, this deduction has demonstrated by Car-free Day, which is designated as the day when people should not ride their own car and should walk or take bus or subway and so on. The government has enforced the policy of free ride on pubic transportation only at the day. Most people have use public transportation, so there have been no traffic jam even in the main streets and during rush hours. Consequently, I thind that free public transportation could settle the chronic trouble or traffic jam
On top of that, people will reduce transportation expenses. In other words, transportation expenditure is given a great deal of weight in the family economy, especially of common people. For example, my high school English teacher bought a old-fashioned used car because payment of public transportation exceeded the cost of oil supply per month. He was a one-year old teacher, so he didn't have enough money for a living. His car was very obsolete, so he purchased it very cheaply. Students laughed at his ridiculous car when seeing it at first, but they understanded him after hearing an explanation for his behavior. I believe that there are many people like my English teacher. Many ordinary people is suffering from their burdensome transportation expenses. The government should enforce the policy of free public transportation. This argument may be justified by the fact that people pay their taxes. In addition, the government can make up the fund from particular taxes such as congestion fees.
Wrap it up, free public transportation not only helps us to settle the problem of traffic jam but also lighten the burden of transportation expenses of our families. In conclusion, I believe that people should not have to pay public transportation fees.
