The reading passage contends that the group studying is effective way of studying. On the contrary, the lecture contradicts the reading with opposing views.
To begin with, while the reading passage argues that group study motivates students to study, the lecture actually points out that it is discouraging to study because the works are not distributed properly. Some students do not their work which are assigned to them, also they stop showing for study group. This really brings all team members down, since that person’s portion of work should be covered by other person.
On top of that, the lecture casts doubt on the reading that students help each other, the lecturer actually points out that helping is not reciprocal always, because some students just rely on to smart students. Students who are not good at studying just expect to better students to explain all. Also, when people choose assignments, the weaker students excuse themselves not to have assignments. Consequently, doing better students get more assignments to do.
Furthermore, the speaker denies the reading which maintains that time can be saved by saying that group study is wasting time since it is hard to have same pace with all team members. For some students, although they already covered stuff, they have to review them again and again because of the other members. It is wasting time for them. Also, the studying time changes to socializing time after a while.
For this reasons, speaker challenges the reading’s points about advantages of group studying. |
