Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Exams encourage students to learn. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. |
As far as I can remember, ongoing debate exists over whether or not exams encourage students to learn. They also argue that exams are not crucial way to learn. From my point of view, I firmly feel that the former is more important than its counterpart. The rationale behind this is presented below. Among other things, we need to dwell on this question: "why most of teachers use the exams as evaluation of academic achievement." The answer is because it is most efficient way to promote students to study. Many teachers give exams in this reason and students study harder to get good grade on them. Students who study hard probably get good grades on the exams. In same time, they learn more than students who do not study hard. Even assuming the above is not less implausible, some argue that exams can bring too much stress on students. Some also state that exams can prevent students from doing other activities. I, however, argue that everything has its dark side. Hence, I still put an emphasis on that such exams have created more merits than flaws. Consider the following: I am a high school student. I have faced the various exams for many years. Many of exams help me to remember what I learned before. Especially history exam does. I was not really interested in history, so I had done poor job on class works and homeworks. However, I wanted to get good grade on it. I studied hard for the exams. As I studied for the exams, I got interested in history class. From that point, I have been doing good job on the history class. For this reason it is needless to say I benefited from the exams. All things considered, although people may hold different position on this issue, I strongly agree that exams encourage students to learn with numerous opportunities: 1) stimulus of studying 2) gain of interest in the class
