There are many diffrences and similarities between South Korea and Australia's education system. Such as subject, extra curricular activities, years of education, and school schedule. South Korea's education system
is more hard to develope student's personality, In contrast Australia has more specific courses and give many opportunities to children that can choose their future themselves. Firstly, they have several diffrences and similarities about their years of education. Both countries years of education are 12years. But, Australia have preschool, primary school, and high school. In preschool, they teaches 6 years to 12 years old students and In high school they teaches 12 years to 18 years old students. However, in Korea, they teaches 5 years to 11 years student in elementary school, 12years to 14years students in middle school, and 15years to 17years students in high school. Also in Australia students can choose they will learn 11,12years but in Korea students can't go to university if they don't graduate high school.
The second is subject. Two countries also have several diffrences and similarities about their subject. Korea and Australia both learn math, English, society, environment, science, art, and second language. In addition, Australia teaches 'technology and personal development, health&physical education' (ACL, 2010, p.183). Unlike Australia, Korea doesn't have subject that develop student's personality or health care. They concentrate to teach main subject.
Third one is extra curricular activities, for example, after school class, camps, field trips, and club. In Korea, every camps, field trips are already planned by school. For instance, field trips are every springs and camps are every winter. Also, after school class and club activities, students should pay to school for teachers fee, borrowing class rooms fee. And it's not optional in Korea, when the school make the supplementary lessons. students have to listen it. If the student don't want to listen supplementary lessons, but she(he) should pay the money and listen the class. In contrast, in Australia, after school class and club are optional. They thinks themselves and then make their own decision. In addition, students can choose attends the camps or not in Australia, but in Korea if student can't prove he(she) has the family or financial problem they should attends to the camps.
Finally, there are diffrences and similarities about school schedule like time table, vacation. In korea, they have only one time to get in school. On March, every new students enter the school and have vacation at July, December. Every vacation is only one month except or university students, they have two months vacations. But, Every elementary, middle, high school students have spring vacation that after winter vacation students doesn't promote to upper grade, just coming school about 2 weeks and then have spring vacation until March. except for new students. In contrast, In Australia they accept the new students three times at one year. And school's vacation is similar to Korea but the university student's vacation is shorter than Korea.
In conclusion, both have many diffrences and similarities about their education system such as subject, years of education, extra curricular activities, and school schedule. Although Korea's education is more concentrate on main subject, Australia's education is much helpful for children. Because, their education make children have more creative thinkings and can make their own decisions.
