In our current society, the virtue of studying hard has been doubted by many people. Although some might argue that studying hard is helpful for student's future career, I strongly believe the benefits of socializing with other people far outweigh the advantages of getting good grade in school.
To begin with, the ability to get along well with other people is highly important in the business world. This is due to the fact that people can get valuable oppotunities by building close relationship with people. For example, one can get a chance to be introduced to helpful people for the future. Moreover, people are able to get useful information or secret related to their business by maintaining rigid relationships with buyers or other employees. Without such a broad social network, people are not able to get aids or business oppotunities from other people. Let's assume that a student devoted all school years to have excellent skill in his or her major and get high GPA, but has trouble with lack of social skill. Presumably, this student wil have hard time to build relationship with the cream of the crop who would paly the key role in one's success in the near future, and even might fail to get chance to show his real ability.
On top of that, contrarty to what most people believe in, receiving high grade in school does not have something to do with one's success. It is known fact that the custom which offers more job oppotunities to students who got good grade has been died out. This is due to the fact that, in this result-oridented society, most company want to hire workers who have work experience in the real world and are able to produce good result immediately, Most business people already notice that good grade do not means that good performance, because there are huge differences between the real experience and the academic study. According to national survey conducted by the Ministry of Labor in Korea, in 2010, over the half of human resource managers in major Korean company answered that the most important consideration when recruiting people is personality, especially an ability to manage the relationship with impotant people. On the other hands, they choose a good GPA as fifth important consideration. |
