There exists controversy over on whether educating high school students should be educated in practical classes or general classes more fit in for their learning. I feel that school should focus on the educating purpose and learning instead of careers and specific fields. My reasons are that such educating methods help make students more flexible for application areas as well as the general area, and those would contribute to their understanding of the courses.
To begin with, the general subjects would become foundations for the specific subjects. After building up their ground, students are capable to apply the basic for the practical. When it comes to mathematics mathematical learning, if students are strong on the basic theory courses, such as abstract algebra and real analysis, it is obvious that they will do well on applied mathematics consisted of the general mathematics. For example, I always struggled to understand the general mathematics course in my college under an advice from my professor that if I comprehend the general courses perfectly, the applied courses would naturally be figured out in time. As with his comments, it did not matters matter for me to get an A grade with a little of efforts exerted.
On top of that, it is unrealistic that students who are not exposed to the general subjects can understand well for the practical subjects. As simply conjecturing that they would meet difficulties in comprehending the subjects, I, by myself, can make a rough conclusion that it draws deficits for students having practical classes only. In addition, My the assumption got a supporting evidence by an experimental research conducted by an educator, saying that students who belonged to a class for practical leaning learning have been measured in understanding that their exam scores for the subjects were located in under averages, whereas students taught in general subjects have taken exams with confidences, resulting in almost perfect scores. In this context, it would not be denied that the practical courses would bring about insufficiency for learning.
To sum up, schools that teach general subjects will make it better for students in terms of application abilities, and such schools would show better performances than of the students who had taken practical classes. For those reason, I believe that a basic – oriented class is superior to one that only offers a practical class. |
