A lot of controversy exists over whether the news media provides people with credible information. Although many TV news programs and newspapers pretend to be unbiased and accurate, I can find the distortions and negative aspects of the news media. This is mainly because media company tries to make news more colorful and they are all related to its own stakeholders.
To begin with, every news media tries hard to make current event and news more colorful and dramatic in order to increase their own profits and attract more viewers. Consequently, media's these behaviors would prevent people from gaining trustworthy information. The best example of this is the Iraq war. When the war broke out, a majority of the news company in the United States portrayed the war as the solution that will lead to the world peace. However, other media which is at the opposition position to the war reported on-the-spot brutal scenes at the headline news. This shows the ruthless invaders' immoral action. The obvious difference between the media companies definitely describes how much the news company distort the fact and tries to make their news more attractive. Therefore, the information provided by the news media is untrustworthy.
In addition, every media is related to its own stakeholders. In fact, the world of media is extremely corrupted. This is due to the fact that large number of big corporations commit bribery to make the news related to them to be more possitive and beneficial to the company. The best example of this is Korean newspaper company named 'Hankook news'. This media received large sum of money by the big company named 'Samsung'. Therefore, 'Hankook news' created news which is overcoated that makes the 'Samsung' company benefited a lot from the news when it comes to the sales aspects. This corrupted behavior of two huge company had a extremely negative impact on not only other rivalry companies, but also normal consumers. Therefore, all of the media company has its own stakes that could bring about corruption.
In conclusion, I strongly disagrees with the statement that the media offers unbiased information to public because they make the news colorful and far away from the real truth. Furthermore, in the media world, there has been lots of corruption. On the whole, it is recommendable for people who believe 100 percent of the news to figure out which one is true and who is telling the truth. |
