Nowadays, there are myriad museums in the world, and every museum consists of many relics which inform about their country. In this sense, some people claims that if a person wants to know about a country, the person should visit museums of the country. However, I oppose the statement because there are many limitations. There is no doubt that museums cannot show modern society and ordinary culture of countries. In this essay, I'll present some reasons to support my opinion.
First, because museums usually display old and past relics, they cannot inform modern aspects. In these days, a lot of things have changed too quickly, such as technology, perception of people, or knowledge. Therefore, museums cannot contain all changed things because of the pace of change. For this reason, people cannot learn about a country just through museums. For example, when I was 18, I visited France with my friends. At that time, I believed that museums are the best way to know about a country. However, there were huge discrepancy between France of museums and real France. As a result, I was confused, and I had some problems to get along with modern French. Now I think getting along with French for a minute is more efficient to know about France than visiting museums.
Second, we cannot learn about culture or ethnicity through just visiting museums. Museums usually contain really important historical things, so we can rarely contact with ordinary life and normal culture. For example, museums usually display a lot of clothes of kings, crown, weapon, and so on, historically important things. However, there are seldom displayed clothes of ordinary people, and equipment. For these reasons, I strongly believe that people should go out to meet the native people of the countries if they want to know about the countries. Native people can inform a lot of ordinary life. Even though the information has less historical importance, and this information is more important to know about countries because history cannot show all aspects of the countries.
In conclusion, museums can inform about important history and historical event. However, to know about a country, I strongly believe that people should know about ordinary people, understand their culture, and experience modern society. |
