There might be different opinions about whether technology has made people’s life easier or complicated. Although a lot of modern technology including the Internet, cell phone, and airplanes allows people to work efficiently, letting them to save time and obtain information easily, I firmly believe that there are more side effects of modern technology which discourages people from living convenient lives for two reasons: the pace of changing and newly appeared modern crimes.
To start with, people should learn about a huge amount of technology daily appearing such as smart phone, the Internet, and so on. This is because the rapidly changing technology forces us not to take a break from never ending learning. Thus, to adapt themselves to the fast pace of the changes people have no choice but to strive to learn about them. To illustrate this point, my mother who had never learned about computer skills in her university years should take computer classes such as Microsoft word and Photoshop in the neighborhood community center only to adapt herself to the changes. However, she has to continue to learn many other things such as sending text message from cell phone and the use of the Internet via computer and smart phone. Although she always tried to get herself changed as the technology developed, eventually, she gave up learning about all the new things because it makes her too stressed out. She even thought that it was easier to live without the new technology.
In addition, new technology brought about a large number of modern crimes. As our society rapidly developed, we are exposed to various types of modern crimes which are difficult to prevent for the elusive nature. These crimes all stem from the new technologies. According to the National Police Agency in 2009, new types of crimes including the Internet hacking, identity theft, and voice phishing have doubled in comparison to 2007. They admitted their incompetence for the newly appearing crimes, urging people to pay attention to their private information not to be stolen by others. This implies that many new inventions intended to help people live easier lives can be harmful to their living by being used as means of crimes.
In conclusion, our lives are more complicated because of the fast pace of change and threatened by the new types of crimes. All in all, the good intention does not always lead to expected results.
