Those who put more prioty in making school more competitive should insist that gift of money should be spent on building more facilities, such as library and gymnasium in school. However, I think it is much better to spend money on scholarships for poor and excellent students. This is because scholarships can provide same opportunities and motivate students to study harder.
First of all, investing money for the scholarship enable poor students to acquire opportunities for education as other students. This means that more students may have chances for attending school, without worrying about tuition fee that is unaffordable to them. For example, when I was attending high school, scholarship was founded by famous lawyer who graduated from my school. Thanks to this money, my friend who was having a hard time to supporting his mother to fight for the cancer could attend the school. He could successfully finish the school without worrying about the fianancial problem.
Second, spending money on the scholarship can be a motivator for studying hard. Lots of students don't have enough money to spend for their hobby because they usually receive money from their parents and it is not enough for their request. Therefor, students should try hard to get money for their own sake and they may study harder to win at the competition for the scholarship. For instance, I spent my freshman year to get a scholarship that my department provide. Since I really wanted to buy the computer, I tried very hard and I could finally be the member of reciepient of the scholarship. I could study better thinking about imagining to be a
In conclusion, it is more appropriate for schools to spend money on the scholarship, considering the positive results it might cause. Scholarships can bring about more opportunities for learning, especially for poor students. Also scholarship can increase the students'motivation for study. All in all, we should encourage more schools to pay attention to founding the scholarship instead of spending other areas such as building library. |
