There is an old saying, "Quality over quantity." This phrase can be applied to all parts of our daily lives. For instance, the above saying can also imply that rather than having a great amount of information, it is better to fully acknowledge the important facts as yours. Considering this fact, it seems obvious that it is more interesting and worthy to read a good book twice rather than reading it once. Through this process of re-reading the book, people would be able to have a thorough understanding about the book and also accept them in various perspectives.
To begin with, reading a good book twice helps the readers to fully understand the book. By having the chance to read the same book one more time, people can catch the important facts that they missed at the first time. Although people do understand the basic information of the book, it is hard for them to get all the important details that are described in the book in just one reading. As for me, I read Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" for more than five times when I was in high school. When I first read the book, I merely thought that the book was no different from other love stories. However, when I had the opportunity to read the book one more time, I was able to realize how well the author described each character's emotion and background, that makes the book so unique and valuable.
Furthermore, by reading a good book once more, readers can accept the given information in a different view from the first time. That is, people tend to understand a book in a more diverse perspective when they read it once more. At first, readers mostly focus only on the fundamental information that appears one the pages. However, when they read the book again after knowing the basic facts, they get a chance to approach the book with their own paradigm, or in a more creative way. Many people would have the experience of perceiving a same book with a different feeling. For example, when I read Samuel P. Huntington's "The clash of civilizations?" in the past, I thought that the author's view was correct and logical. Thus, the book seemed to be flawless and praiseworthy to me. However, when I read the book a few weeks ago, I felt a different emotion towards the book. Although the book was still the same book, I was able to present my critical evaluation to the author's points. This was because I accepted the same book with a different view and attitude from the first time.
In conclusion, reading a book twice provides people with much more advantages than once. Readers would be able to catch informations that they missed at the first time. In addition, people would also be able to approach the book in a different paradigm than when they first read it. It seems clear that books can be much more interesting and informative when readers have the chance to read the book one more time. |
