“This is breaking new. A famous writer Brian Doyle was found murdered in his bathroom at 5 A.M. today. He is famous for his fantasy series which is also made in film. He was known to be working on his last book of the series recently. His fans who were anticipating his book are now in deep sorrow and rage. The writer’s house is now investigated for……”
I turned off the television and stood up from the sofa to look around the house. The writer’s house was so clean and organized. There was not much difference since I arrived here at 9 o’clock. More reporters were gathering around the house and the police were busy searching for the evidence. I was waiting for my assistance to arrive with the data I requested.
“Detective, these are three possible murder suspects. They all had bad terms with the victim.” He handed me a brown envelope.
“Oh, Just in time. Let me see. His colleague, stalker, and…. his older brother?”
“Yes, he is a 45-year-old unemployed man. He constantly abused his brother for not lending him enough money. “
“Okay, thanks. “
Although I’ve been working as a detective for 5years now, the idea of a brother killing his younger brother terrified me. However, my experience taught me not to have any assumptions. While I was thinking deeply, a tall man in suits strode toward me. Then he stopped and looked down at me.
“Are you the detective?” He questioned me.
As I did with all the strangers I have met so far, I did not look up and just nodded my head slowly.
“And you are…...?”
“I am Graham Anderson, Brian’s publisher. I am too shocked to hear his death. He was my best friend and excellent co-worker. We were going to set the date to publish his last book. He sounded so excited when we talked yesterday. Detective, please track the murderer as soon as possible.
Still gazing at the papers, I answered, “I will do my best.”
I expected him to go away, but when I looked up, he was also skimming through the papers.
“Are they the suspects? Oh! I recognize this woman. She is Brian’s stalker. She called him frequently and sent him threatening mails after he blocked her number. She must have killed Brian.”
I noticed the sudden excitement in his voice, but ignored it and said, “Thanks for the information. I have to work on the case now.”
After he walked away, I began to study the documents along with the photos that were taken right after the crime. There were the photos of his kitchen, dining table, and living room. I placed them in my brief case and left to meet the first suspect.

“I am very busy working on my novel now. If you’re suspecting me as a murderer, you’re wasting your time. I have known Brian since the first year of the university. We are….I mean, we were good friends.”
“Everyone knows you are jealous of his fame. You wrote more books than him, but no one heard your name. On the other hand, Brian Doyle wrote his first book and everyone was fascinated.”
“Yeah, sadly, it’s true, but I don’t kill a friend for that reason. Besides, he was an exceptional writer.”
“Okay, then. Where were you yesterday? You need an alibi to prove that you’re not guilty.”
“As I said, I am busy writing my book now. This one’s going to be a greater hit then Brian’s.”

“So, how come you didn’t show up at your brother’s place? Your only brother is murdered and you pretend nothing is happened?”
Unexpectedly, he started to weep. I handed him tissues and asked him the same question again.
After a few minutes, he replied, “I was a mean brother…… I felt so sorry to Brian.”
“Do you know that all of his property is yours, as an only family? Weren’t you expecting it and killed him? You always wanted more money from him, didn’t you?
I waited for his response, but he just continued to weep.

I confronted the last suspect. She was skinny and seemed to be in her thirties.
“You’ve stalked him for 3years, and according to Brian Doyle’s publisher, you sent threatening mails to the writer.”
She glanced at me expressionlessly.
“Yes, I did, but I love him. Why would I kill Brian when I can’t live without him?”
My assistance knocked the door and passed me a paper.
“This is one of her mails to Mr. Doyle.”
I opened it and was astonished to read the sentence. The mail said in red ink, “Marry me or I will kill you.”
