만약에 너가 역사속의 인물 한명을 만난다면 누구를 만나겠니?
There are numerous people who lived in the past who are admired in the presence. However, f there is a possibility to meet one person in the past; I would definitely meet Geoffrey Chaucer, who is a famous writer from the medieval time. The reason for this is that because I recently read one of his poems called "The Canterbury Tale" written in the late 15th century and have numerous questions about this literary work. Also, Chaucer wasn't able to finish the poem because he died before he was able to finalize the poem.
First of all, Chaucer is well known for his unique writing technique. He used multiple layered ironies in most of his poem and many English major students and professor are still trying to interpret the true meaning of the work. For example, he describing the pardoner, who should life in a sanctuary and practice spiritual life, as a person who is full of greed and tricks the uneducated people by giving them false preaches. This is the part where I could understand what Chaucer was trying to illustrate. It could be a indirect expression of the hate of the Church, or it could be the illustration of one of the pardoner he actually met. This multiple layered irony and parody in his poem is the reason why I want to meet Chaucer, because I want to ask him what the true meaning is behind these contexts.
Secondly, Chaucer wasn't able to finish "The Canterbury Tale" because he died shortly before he was finishing the poem. If I could go back to his time and ask the ending of the story, I would be the first person in the present time who finds out the climax of the poem. For example, the current ending was written by another writer who was an apprentice of Chaucer. He wrote the ending of the poem by assuming what would Chaucer has written. However, that is not the ending of Chaucer. Still, numerous literary researchers are coming with a new theory of the conclusion of the poem. Going back to the medieval time and meet Chaucer will definitely solve the mystery of the conclusion of the poem.
In conclusion, if I would choose one person in the history to meet, I will absolutely meet Chaucer, because of the numerous mysteries he hasn't revealed. I would be so pleased to sit with him and talk about the poems he wrote.
