When peopel succeed, it is because of hard work. Luck has nothing to do with success.
I disagree with the statement “When people succeed, it is because of hard work. Luck has nothing to do with success.” Although, hard working is a crucial factor of success, achieving success hardly occurs in reality without fortune. The theory behind this is derived by my personal experience and the historical events.
First of all, there is a less chance of flourish if one’s having a particularly “bad” day. The day everybody has experienced, such the day you miss the train to work, get scolded by the boss for tardiness, and then you remember you forget to bring the important profile for the presentation, eventually get suspended. This kind of day cannot be proved scientifically or logically but we all know it is due to bad luck. To take a personal example, for the yearly mathematic exam, I stayed up late revising the core topics, memorizing the intricate formulas, and trying to understand the difficult concept by solving more problems and questions. However, despite the time and effort that I put in preparing for the mathematics exam, I received lower grade than English. In this respect, hard work does not always guarantee success.
Moreover, not only my personal experience rebuffs the saying but the historical events. There are numbers of tragic historical events such as in the war, nations’ slow-economy and failure in sports games, those despise the endeavor applied for the victory. In Korea, there is a famous movie which is about the women’s handball game in Athens Olympics in 2004. The movie describes in details how hard they practice for the game, the process of overcoming adversities they face when their beloved coach changes due to the unfair reason, the phases to reach the complete cooperation between teammates. However, the movie ends with a sad and bitter ending of them fail to win the gold medal due to the referee’s faulty conviction. Hence, through this movie which is based on the true historical sports events, it clearly demonstrates the importance of luck.
In conclusion, successful people are in their positions due to the combination of hard work and luck. Through the examples mentioned above, it is obvious that luck is definitely a main source to accomplish the goal.
