As the scope of topic is way too general to discuss due to the word "success", I would like to narrow down the definition of success to financial success. Given the constraint, I partly agree with the topic sentence that the main factor of sucess is hard work. I believe that, although luck definately affects people's success, the amount of effort put into the business resembles the degree of sucess as hard work can bring competitiveness and insight. Today, we are living in the era of information. So, the ability to find, modify, and analyze data creates value, and this ability cannot be developed with sheer luck. What it takes to ahcieve the ability required in today's world is constant effort. For example, let's assume that you are business start up in shoes industry. To maximize your profit, you need to know the right way of producing and marketing your products. You cannot simply decide the amount of products you will produce for the comming quarter by rolling the dice, rather what you need to have is the data which you will base on to foretell the demand. This can only be achieved by hard work.
Also, continuous effort will increase the chance to detect a good opportunity to suceed. Let's continue the start up in shoes industry example. Assume that manager A kept observing the trend of shoes consumer for 10 years, and manager B continued making the shoes he feels like it for 10 years. Then who is more plasible to find meaninful fact such as that people's preference toward shoes is largely influnced by the fashion of celebrity. This kiind of insight surely comes from the hard work.
This world consists of various and numorous types of uncertainty, so sometimes it seems like the success is decided by mere luck. However, I still believe that it is hard work that plays the major role in success, as hard work promises competitiveness and insight, which are the core factor of success. |
