The topic is that whether china is the first country which discovered America or not. While the reading passage claims many evidences support that china is first, the lecturer opposes the reading passage.
First, the reading passage indicates artifacts. Many unique artifacts which were found in California, especially ship anchor, are closely resembled with Chinese old ships, junks. But the lecturer claims that it is not old Chinese one. According to the lecturer, the artifacts and ship wreckages are not formed in fifteenth century, but made and used in nineteenth century in California. So, the lecturer claims that it cannot be an evidence of the statement.
Second, the reading passage claims that some stone structures in Rhode Island have remarkable similarities with the architecture of the old Chinese dynasty. And, the reading suggests that it might function as a lighthouse and observatory for Chinese vessels. However, the lecturer claims that there are no evidences which the structures were built by Chinese in 15th century. To prove, the lecturer mentions radiocarbon dating. According to the result of test by using radiocarbon dating, the structures were not made in 15th century.
Third, the reading passage asserts that some words of Native American have astonishing similarities with Chinese, like “Yosemite”. But the lecturer clams that there are no words, except “Yosemite”. And because there are so many words between words of Chinese and Native America, some of them can be comparable. |
