Those who are accustomed to reading literal media might say that newspaper is superior to television when people acquire news. However, I do not agree with the statement that since television does not send us more information than newspaper, newspaper is good path for getting news. There are two major aspects: television gives us not only more information but also impartial information than newspaper.
First, when it comes to the quantity of information, television has better abilities than newspaper. Some might say that newspaper deals with various information such as sports, politics, economy, and movie starts. However, television is more powerful in terms of efficiency to send information. We need to look no further than cable television. Cable television is fulfill with enormous news about politics, movie star, songs, and etc, even something is what we do not want to know. In addition, TV can make people know mass of information in short time. As society is getting complex, people has no time to reading something. In the morning, people often obtain news just by watching television. In intricate society, many people do not have time to read newspaper because people should spend time deciding whether information help us or not.
Moreover, as far as sending unbiased information is concerned, television is more believable than newspaper. Newspapers often have specific politic view. For example, Newsweek tend to agree with the Democrat Party’s opinion about social issues. In Korea, several newspaper companies, Cho-Sun, Dong-Ah, and Choong-Ang, have a tendency to pursue conservatives’ views in social conflicts. In a sense, it is true that there are also specific political biases in TV broadcasting companies. However, in terms of the partiality of information broadcasting companies are more careful than newspaper company because in the light of politics perspective, TV viewers are not specific people in contrary of newspaper readers. Since newspaper readers give money newspaper companies, the readers choose specific company that may has similar views to the readers. Therefore, broadcasting companies should carefully make disinterested programs in order for mass to censure television stations regarding social problems where people have different stances.
In summary, I do not agree that newspaper is superior to TV in terms of the quantity of and partiality of information. This because television is more effective and more careful about impartiality of information than newspaper. |
