The lecturer discusses the issue of the Roman upper class's lead posioning which lead to collaspe of Rome. On this matter, the lecturer says that the radical idea of lead posioning among the Roman elists is easily refuted because it have major problems. This casts doubt on the reading passage's claim that due to Roman upperclass' lead posioning distract them from rule their nation.
First, the lecturer explains that Roman artistocracies would have less chance to posioned by lead through their powder which was used for cosmetic practice. This is because lead posioning is not occurs unless the lead get into blood stream, and aristocracy would not has scar on his or her face. This counters the reading passage's contention that cerussa powder contain lead which used for upper class comestic purpose, would lead to them to posioned.
Second, the lecturer says that even water pipe made up by lead, Roman upper class would not worry about it. This is because the water pipe even directly connect to uppper classes' house, the thick layer of mineral, calcium in the pipes protected the water touched the lead-pipe. As a result, the lecturer once agian effectively nullifies the reading passage's assertion that lead pipe that spread all over the city would led aristocracy into posioned.
Lastly, the lecturer clarifies that lead poisoned sapa would not led Roman upper class into posioning. Althrough it is true that Roman elists enjoyed sapa which boiled out from lead pots, the amount of lead is so trivial that would not enough to cause the posioning. This is because, sapa usually drinked after water down. This ultimately refutes the reading passage's argument that enjoying sapa led upper class into poisoned.
