Most high school students have a hope to avoid taking exams if it could be possible in their life. Even after they graduated from the high school, they can't not escape from the burden, which always waits for them. So do College students. So the workers after they are out from the college. However, taking exams virtually helps students to learn in the ways of improving their knowledge by reviewing the concepts they've learned in the class and checking their level of competence on that matter compared with other students.
To begin with, exams have positive effects on student's thinking ability, which could be earned by the process of analyzing information and assessing materials on their own ways. When students prepare for any exams, it is required for them to review the textbooks and study questions and answers again. It helps to remind the things they've learned during the class effectively and efficiently. For example, when I took an economic class in college, I thought I understood the professor's lecture well, but I realized there were a few theories I had not fully figured out during the reviewing time. Even though taking exams are not always enjoying activity, I could have invaluable time to check my weak points and strengthen them through preparing for the exam. After the exam, I was able to explain the concepts clearly to anybody who asks me about them.
On top of that, taking exams is a good way to check their status where they are at compared to other students in the class. To know their own level of learning helps them to acknowledge how much they have to study harder and to check the way they've used in learning is good or bad. For instance, I found myself who was not really good at speaking English through a speaking test taken at an English conversation class in my college. Other students were very fluent in speaking the language because they had been English speaking countries for many years - over 5 years. After the exam, I thought I need the same experience like they had, which is studying abroad. Before the professor checked my speaking level, I didn't know that I was not good at speaking English. Only after I knew it, I made up my mind to strive for getting the ability by studying English outside of Korea, the United State. I'm so grateful that I had the chance to realize what level I was correctly in.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that exams have a lot of benefits for students to get information from reviewing process and checking what level they are now so that they will try hard to catch up with others who already are at high level. If students have this in mind, taking exams turns out another enjoyable lesson for their learning |
