Opinions vary regarding that today’s children cannot be controlled by their parents. I strongly believe that children are influenced by the outside world, especially by television and movies in these days since parents cannot have frequently contact with their children and characters on television and in movies have been become the role model to children.
First of all, parents begin to lose control over their children due to limited time they spend with them. In the past, children would like to resemble their parents. However, today, children do not tend to be controlled by their parents because parents are bound and driven by hectic schedules. In this vacuum, children become influenced by television and movies. Take my sister case as an example, after school, my sister turn on television, which is only a way for her to spend bored time. As time goes by, she has increasingly tended to mimic the characters on television such as the way she talks and the attitude she deal with others. As my sister experience illustrates, outside world on television and in movies has a great influence on children.
In addition, parents cannot restrict what their children do because a gap of between parents and their children are gradually increasing. In the past, children’s role model had been their parents. However, today, children follow the characters on television and in movies. According to the study by Korean National Research Center, 65 percent of surveyed children answered that their role model is the character on television and in movies such as action hero, comedian, and sports star. Based on the study, they would like to imitate their role model’s style which is clothing and behavior. Thus, I think that today’s parents’ effect do not reach the characters on television and in movies.
In conclusion, most of parents hope that they have a great influence on their children. However, in these days, development of mass media and their hectic schedules have made it impossible for them to impact their children. |
