Throughout history, people have constantly pursued new products regardless of their current properties. In this sense, I believe people never get satisfied with what they have and always want unique items, because it makes them outstanding among others and they are easily sick of old concept. Thus, this statement is higly agreeable upon.
First of all, people are able to overwhelm others by having something new and different. Different and new items often receive great attention from people. Thus, people continuously purchase fresh goods in order to show off and get edge over others with their special posessions. To further illustrate my point, once there was a special sale of Bean Pole company. They sold T-shirts which had water proof function. Even though the T-shirts were neither specially cheap nor fashionable, people desired to buy them due to its difference from other products, which was the water proof. According to those T-shirts consumers, the reason why they made a purchase is to be recognized among the crowd, wearing T-shirts with water proof, which was pretty different from other brands' products.
Secondly, people are easy to lose interest with their original possessions. New objects are being made at rapid pace, even at this moment. Since new goods come out day by day, it is natural for people to feel unfresh with their possessions. This phenomenon is not an exception even for me. I bought a MP3 last year, which was a new product at that time. However, currently, new version of MP3 from Apple company was released about two months ago. I was soon fascinated by the new item. Even though there was not any problem or damage from my original MP3. I just threw out my old MP3 and bought the new IPOD from Apple Company, simply because the old one was not fascinating any more. This illustrates why people want something new without satisfying with what thy have.
To conclude, there are no limits for peoples' desire. People instinctively want new and different items because by having those, they can surpass others and regain interest. Nonetheless, people have to manage themselves to gain satisfaction with what they have, otherwise, their minds would be full of excessive vanity. |
