▶ Your Answer :
It is debatable whether it is better to watch serious movies designed to make you think than to watch movies primarily designed to amuse or entertain. Regardless what opponents argue, my personal take on the matter is that it is more advantageous to watch amusing or entertaining movies than to serious movies. I can point out a number of reasons to support my stance, but I will shorten my discussion to the two most significant points; Firstly, watching amusing and entertaining movies, rather than serious movies, is more effective way to make us think, and secondly, it helps us relieve our stress.
The most convincing reason with respect to the topic is that entertaining movies are a more effective way to make us think and look back on our lives. The people who are in opposition to my stance have an inclination to mistakenly overlook the fact that only serious movies enable us to think. However, once they come to realize the positive effect of amusing or entertaining movies, they will not be able to help but agree my stance.
For example, watching comedy movies is one of my favorite hobbies. Whenever I watched comedy movies, especially directed by Kim, it never fails to not only make me happy but also give me chance to think and look back on my life. This is because, ironically, most Korean comedy movies tend to involve precious and serious lessons even if they seem to be simply designed to amuse or entertain. In this way, it is a better bargain to watch entertaining and amusing movies.
The second point that I would like to bring to light in arguing my position lies in the fact that it is possible for us to manage our stress through watching movies designed to amuse or entertain. It is undeniable that we need time to relieve our stress since the level of stress of modern people is too high enough to threaten our health. To illustrate, according to a recent news article conducted by Korea Times, high school students who enjoy watching humorous movies show lower level of stress than high school students who enjoy serious movies. This is largely attributable to the fact that humorous and entertaining movies help many students laugh, meaning that they can manage their stress more efficiently. Inevitable, this can provide us with good opportunities that we can recharge energy and refresh ourselves, overriding any pleasure that we can derive from watching serious movies. This clearly indicates that we are better of watching movies designed to amuse and entertain.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that the aforementioned arguments adequately support my stance that the benefits of watching amusing and entertaining movies outweigh those of watching serous movies designed to make us think.
