Some of the eminent psychologists proposed that children go through certain phases of development that is crucial throughout one’s life. Not only proved by psychologists that childhood is significant time in one’s lifetime, but there are also other factors that make this period very important in physical and educational facets. Therefore, I firmly believe that a person’s childhood years are the most significant years of one’s lifetime.
To begin with, children have to develop certain psychological capabilities that are needed throughout his or her life. A person’s childhood memories and traumas are the ones that affect their adulthood the most. In a very subliminal and unconscious level, those memories affect one’s behavior or thinking pattern to great extent. For example, my aunt went to see a shrink for continuous financial problems. The psychologist told her that the way his father gave her money when she was a child was the origin of the problem. Even little occurrence in childhood can influence people, thus one’s childhood years are the most crucial period for establishing psychologically healthy adulthood.
Childhood is time for growing. It’s the time that whatever children eat enters their body and make the most of it to grow. Their teeth, bones, height and etc. have to grow during childhood time. If one doesn’t get enough nutrition during this period of time, it is almost impossible to physically grow after becoming an adult, when all the growing process stopped. I’ll take my father for example. My father spent very poor and starving childhood so he only ate one meal a day. His height is as tall as an elementary school student. Seeing this, it’s needless to say that childhood times are imperative for physical development.
Habits developed in childhood times lasts through the rest of one’s life. In Korea, there’s a saying that ‘habits made at 3 persists till 80’. It is an exaggeration that’s not too exaggerated. A life pattern forms in very early age of one’s life and forming a healthy, diligent habits are very helpful once one becomes an adult. For instance, I’ve been always messy and hated cleaning since I was very young, because I didn’t fix it earlier when I was a child, it is so hard to change it now with little time.
To sum up, from every kind of aspects, childhood is the most important time of a person’s life. Everything done in childhood is bound to have an effect on a person’s thinking and behaviors afterwards. Developing appropriate mind, values, physical body, and behaviors is essential cornerstone for becoming a good adult and living a good life. So pay extra attention to children. |
