Does it agreeable that universities should spend equal money to their students’ sports activities as they give to their university libraries, as the speaker contends? Some people believe that health is as important as studying hard. However, that could not rationalize the same investment to sports activities as to libraries. Also, universities should spend more money to their libraries than sports activities for the following reasons.
The most obvious ground is that the university are the place where pursuing knowledge. Therefore, library is in important position and it should be supported for students. For example, cutting edge of publication, microfilms, and utilities in libraries should be contained and updated. Only with obsolete or dated information in major fields, students would be remained behind. Additionally, my university invested in library to extend it and in guaranteeing financial support for each student to purchase new books what they need. Thanks to the policy, I have an experience that I could get a book in a week which was not in library. For these things, sufficient amount of money would be required.
Moreover, most of the students use libraries, while sports facilities are not. Overwhelmingly many students are in libraries to prepare job-acquire, exams, and other reasons than in gymnasium and ground. As a matter of fact, most of the universities in city where I live are in the same situation as I mentioned. Students are asking more places to substitute libraries and more financial aids. In so many people say: A coin has two sides. Of course sports activities are indispensable for students. Although sports activities have several advantages, the priority is on the study.
In conclusion, I discord with the same amount of financial aids to sports activities as universities give to their libraries. As I mentioned above, the educational sides are the most important to universities, and I believe that they are reasonable grounds to support more money to libraries than sports activities. |
