Game-goers may argue that games can teach people valuable lessons about life; however, others may insist that games, especially video and computer games, can be harmful to game users. I strongly agree with this statement that video and computer games are not beneficial but detrimental to the life of game users. There are various reasons to support my argument, but the most important reasons are as follows. First, games are often harmful to people's imagination. Second, people happen to be addicted to playing games and cannot sustain a normal life.
First of all, game is often harmful to the imagination of people due to its cruel visual effects. It is because game developers make the visual effect provocative in order to give strong impressions to the game users. Having been influenced by the ruthless effects the users become more numb with strong and bloody scenes. In fact, there was a terrible incident on game players in Korea a few years ago. Some guys who had played a computer game at a computer-based game place were killed by unidentified men. They were reportedly playing the game together in cyber space and involved in a certain quarrel. They thought that they were at an actual war. So, the group of men went over to the place where the guys were playing the game and killed them with knives. In the cyber space, they were using the knives.
In addition, a person happens to get addicted to playing games and cannot live a normal life. It is because playing games has an addictive aspect. Especially, a person with a low self-esteem is easily addicted to playing games. Once s/he gets addicted s/he feels hard to sustain a normal life because his/her attention is on playing games. For example, a Korean couple who liked computer-based games did not take care of their baby and let her/him die. The most appalling part of this incident is that the couple did not know that their baby was dying. They could not detach their attention from playing the game and live a normal life. This horrible incident tells us that games are addictive.
In short, people cannot learn important lessons from playing games but become unrealistic and hostile because of its horrifying visual effects. Also, people cannot live normally while playing games due to its addictive side. Considering those two reasons, it is obvious that games should not be recommended but regulated for the healthy life of people. |
