People in the modern society are being exposed to a lot of information surrounding them such as advertisements, news and various opinions about social issues. Some people believe that they can obtain unbiased information through the news media whereas other people’s doubt on the credibility of it. I strongly disagree that the news media is a reliable source of unbiased information because the news media is a kind of commercial industry as well as competition in that field encourage them to bring out the news more dramatically. 12min
First of all, one of the most important purposes of the news media is commerce. It cannot help be not only involved in many political, economical and social issues but also related to numerous groups to raise sponsorship from them. For example, there are a number of news media in Korea from news papers and internet news pages. When Mr. Lee was elected as the president of the Korea republic, those media show positions and opinions that are different from each others. Some news papers supported him and congratulate his election. In contrast there also were a lot of different news media that express their worry. This is because the news media is related to interest groups.
Furthermore, competitions between media companies make them compete incessantly to attract more consumers. They tend to demonstrate news more dramatically and tastefully and contain celebrities dairy life that some people want to know but not educational at all. Research shows that most of consumers of new paper are affected by a front cover of news papers when they pick one of them. According to the result, the news media cannot help try to have people shocked with some shocking pictures on its covers or front pages.
In conclusion, I don’t think that the news media is an unbiased route to get some good information. Not only was they related to interest groups but competition in the news industry make them contain doubtful gossips. All in all, people have to improve their ability to keep their objective stance in the sea of overflowing information. |
