When it comes to success in school, it is interesting issue whether classmates are more influential than parents on success in school. Some people may insist that parents affect children more than anyone, citing that they are the people who care children the most. However, as far as I am concerned, I would say that friends are more influential on children because they spend more time with each others and it helps to improve social skills.
First of all, classmates are more effectible to children because they share much experience together. To put it again, children go to school with friends, study with them, eat lunch together and hang out with each others. In general, children are affected by what they see. In my experience, I have become an active person and became president of my class after getting closed with one of my best friends, Jennifer, who is outgoing person.
Second, relationship with classmates provides more chance for children to get social skills. Usually, getting social skills is one of the important factors to success in school. In particular, children in same age learn how build relationship through interaction with their peers. According to recent study conducted by British Education Research Institute, children who are homeschooled showed 13.4% higher preference to work alone rather than in a team.
All things considered, I maintain that friends are more influential to children’s success in school than parents. That is because children are affected by sharing most of experience with their friends and by improving social skills. For these merits, more and more teachers try to make sure students get along with their classmates well.
