It is controversial whether parents are the best teachers for their children. I believe that parents are the best teachers. There are several reasons why I think like that.
Parents are the most influential people to children since kids spend most of their time with parents. Children always do something with people at their home, and naturally they learn something from parents. School teachers only teach them during classes. The children’s time with their children would be four to five hours out of 24 hours. In contrast, parents do activities with their children almost eighty percent of one day. Because of this great amount of time, parents have enough time to show children what is wrong and what is right. For example, in one class, there is one kid who incessantly teases his or her friend. School teachers rarely have a change to scold his or her wrong behavior, but parents would frequently see that their children jeer their friends or siblings. Parents would correct their wrong behavior more often than any other people like school teachers.
The other reason is intimacy. Children were born from their parents, so they are inclined to follow what their parents want. For instance, I used to smoke in high school. It was difficult for me to stop smoking even though my high school teachers tried to have me quit smoking. One day, my mother said, “If you don’t stop smoking, I will smoke, too.” I was so overwhelmed by my mother that I quit smoking by myself. Since my mother was so intimate that I couldn’t help stopping smoking. Children tend to follow people who they love. That’s why children who had a bad experience with their parents are likely to grow up to be a nasty adult like gangster.
Parents are the people not only with whom children spend their most time but also who have a intimacy with their children. That’s why parents are the best teachers. |
