A substantial numbers of people might think that technology makes our lives more simple and convenient. However, contrary to this notion, I firmly maintain that technology entangle our lives rather than easier to live. The compelling logic behind this is that we need to learn a host of things to use simple technology. Also, if we make mistakes with technology, it becomes much larger problems that it would be.
First of all, technology asks us to be well-informed, unless we cannot even use simple tasks through developed machines. The reason behind this is that most of technology runs automatically and at least they designed to work without people. This means that there are no ones to help or inform how to use the machine or technologic systems. We have to take care of ourselves in front of the machines. For example, in the library, there were new machines to help borrowing books after summer vacation. The students were all strangers for the machines and no ones had ideas how to use it. Next to the machine, librarians post small manuals for it but, students had not enough time to read it carefully. Finally, most of the students just used original information desk or gave up borrowing books. With the small machine in library, we felt uncomfortable to do just tiny work without information.
Secondly, technology often makes our mistakes larger than it used to be or even cannot fix it immediately. This is largely because technology removes people to help others or makes peoples does not care of tasks, then, it comes more difficult to correct when someone makes tiny mistakes. From my experience, in subway, there are ticket machines run completely automatically. Young people are easily informed with the usage, however, elders are not. One elder took so much time to get simple tickets because he inserted four-hundred won less than regular pay. The man had difficult time in front of the machine until I said a word to him. If it can be adapted to companies works or governments works which are working with technologic system even this time, it will be a horror to happen such a mistakes.
In conclusion, without any doubt I strongly believe that technology makes our lives more complex. The main reason is that technology requires us to know more information even simple tasks. Moreover, we cannot easily fixed small mistakes in cutting edge systems because there are any immediate feed backs the system itself. All in all, technology does not allow our lives more simple. |
