There is a major selecting system called 'dual major', which is adding another major to the original one when the student is capable of engaging in two or more majors(more than three is possible but rare) in time and finance aspects, and his interest and learning level are fully considered. Virtually, I have seen several students who have a dual major and give their efforts at both of them even tough. If I got an opportunity to apply for a dual major, However, I would rejected the offer believing one major is better for the following reasons.
First, it is more efficient to concentrate on one major in improving one's specialty. The large difference of university education from the high school's is choosing a major. In high school, students learn basics in a wide range of fields such as history, chemistry or music. On the other hand, when moving to university, they study their own major and somethings closely relevant. This is for the better preparation for their future job after graduation since a certain job requires a certain suitable specialty. If the student had a dual major, he would have to devide his attention that otherwise he could pay on one major, and this will result in less achievements in his specialty improvements.
Secondly, they could not attend extracurricular activities due to the tight major study. University activities is largely comprised of major study and extracurricular activities, and it is desirable when the two elements are balanced. However, proportional to the number of major, the student has to devote most of their time studying in front of desk and expend a large sum of money on the double amount of textbooks classes. It is needless to say that he is likely to miss important experiences like club activities or volunteer work due to the lack of time and money.
To conclude, as I mentioned above, I do not agree with the idea that taking classes in many subjects is better than in one subject.
