It has been interesting issue whether being more like others is better than being different from everybody.
Some people may insist that in modern society where rules and norms govern every tiny unit, a person being different from others is hard to win the race because they can meet so many barriers.
However, I think that being a different person is advantageous for people who want to be a winner in the long run.
First of all, in modern times creativity is becoming key factor for success.
Even though normal thinking fits in most situations, sometimes a conspicuous idea can change the whole environment.
For example, when every electronic devices maker just copes with the change of 3 generation cellular phones, Steve Jobs of Apple co. made an revolutionary ‘i-phone’ which made sensation among suppliers and consumers of mobile phones.
According to the recent survey of Korea Patent Agency, among 100 technical ideas only 1 idea can be a standard and most of those standardized ideas did not follow the past technical trees.
I can easily hear or see similar cases that a difference made a big different result.
In addition, being different from others can be a competitiveness.
Charles Darwin’s famous ‘Survival of the fittiest’ theory gives us a lesson that a mutation can adapt to the changes of surroundings. When every other animal eats the leaves of low trees, a mutation who has a long neck can monopolize the leaves of newly coming up tall trees.
Fast changing Modern society requires people a little bit different thinking. If you behave like your friend, no one catches your personal strong points, therefore, you must show your being difference.
In the mass wearing a black dress, your different point -a red color attire makes you conspicuous, then, yon can be chosen by a decider.
To summarize, I strongly disagrees with the argument that it is better to be more like others than to be different from everybody else. |
