Opinions vary regarding whether advertising is a waste of company money because consumers have already decided what to buy. I agree with the statement for the following two reasons. For one thing, most advertising is quite exaggerated. Additionally, people rely on others’ product experience than commercial when making purchasing decision.
First of all, advertisement is too magnified to influence people’s purchasing decisions. Some people say that commercials provide consumers for useful information about advertised products. However, overstated advertisements have a negative impact on people’s purchasing decisions since the advertisements are able to cause people to disappoint about advertised products. Thus, commercials make company to waste money. According to a study conducted by Korean National Research Center, 71 percent of surveyed people say that they have made purchasing decisions after seeing advertising for the products. Most of them think that they have had a bad experience with buying low-quality products introduced by commercial. Based on the study, advertising does not play a critical role in consumers’ purchasing decisions because it tends to exaggerate the advertised products.
In addition, many people depend on others’ advice when they want to buy some products. In the past, people had only contact with advertisements in order to access information about products they need to. The problem with this is that the commercials caused them to disappoint the quality of the products. So, today’s people have increasingly relied on others’ opinions that have a great effect on people’s purchasing decisions. Take my case as an example. Since I am exposed to countless advertising in these days, I have difficulty in making my buying decisions. Thus, I often refer to my friends and neighbors’ opinions about products I want to buy that mainly influence on my purchasing decisions. If they have had good experiences with the products, I am willing to buy the products. However, if they do not recommend me to buy the products, I am likely to find another product. In this sense, advertising does not outweigh user’s experience in terms of consumers’ purchasing decisions, and thus it leads to a waste of money.
In conclusion, it is not too much to say that it is not a good way for company to advertise to sell their products because consumers think that commercial often magnifies a quality of advertised products, and people tend to ask users for advice about products they want to buy, instead of seeing advertising. |
