Many people lead social lives of confliction among people around. In the situation of various relationships people inevitably need to complain one another, which is very uneasy. Some people try to write to a person including complaining messages while others prefer to complain in person. However I myself have a strong opinion that people should make a complaint face to face. It is more effective and helps to avoid misunderstandings.
To begin with, complaining personally is more effective than writing a message. As we move into the twenty first century, there have been enormous technological developments among our lives and the communicational devices are maybe the utmost beneficiaries. However, despite the new messaging mediums, still it is inadequate to transfer human’s emotions. My dad, who is a professor of a university, says that he never recruits his lab students by only paper matters but makes interviews with them. It is because the writing of the paper does never tell him the true face of a student. After making an interview, talking each other for a while, he can feel the student’s sincerity and his real characters and intentions. Much more, in the situation of complaining, which needs a deep persuasion, talking in face to face really is effective. Tones of voice and expressions of face will tell something more than just writing.
Moreover, complaining in person will help prevent the unnecessary misunderstandings. We all have bad memories about making mistakes when exchanging mobile messages or emails with people. On account of the distinctive features of the text messages, which cannot be immediately modified after sending it and not showing people’s real face behind the monitor, it sometimes causes a serious misunderstanding. When I first met with the Internet messenger, a chatting program using computer, I was literally confused. Some friends met on online kept asked me if I am in bad mood or angry about something. In fact I was just trying to be in polite manners but they kept mistook my emotions by just reading several text words. Obviously there were limits to show my real intentions by using text messages. Especially in the uneasy occasion, such as making complaints, every trivial misunderstanding can be a great barrier in keeping one’s good relationship with another.
To sum up, I strongly insist that people should complain face to face. Owing to the property of complaints making people to feel uncomfortable, people should consider the effectiveness of direct complaint and misunderstandings caused by limits of text words. Not in just cast of complaining, but in case of every conversation, people should definitely make it direct. | |
