Opinions might be divided over whether it is better to allocate government budget on children than on universities and colleges in order to develop a country. People from different works of life may take different stances on this controversial issue. Personally, I believe that spending money on universities and colleges can bring following benefits to the development of a country and two of them are listed blow.
First of all, government could invest more money in educational facilities for studying variety field. In general, college education involves research activities and thus requires more facilities, such as laboratories and research centers. Additionally, securing up-to-date equipment for classroom is directly related to effective teaching and ultimately to the quality of education. This can contribute to the development of entire country. For example, my school recently made a huge investment in school facilities by upgrading its network system, developing a customized search engine for the school libraries, and purchasing new software. As a result I was able to search for and find the books I needed much more quickly than before. Thanks to those facilities, I could generate creative outsets in internship of company and I also contributed to the development of companies management system.
In addition, more of the government budget should be allocated to developing and implementing various study programs. Education in many area of study can be enriched not just by classroom activities, but also by supplementary programs. The problem is that organizing and running these programs inevitable requires a huge sum of money, which is why government should provide financial support for them. According to a study by the Korean Council for University Education, special academic programs such as exchange student programs or overseas field trip programs greatly contributed to boosting the participants’ academic performance. These opportunities, however, are still not available to many students, especially needy ones, the report said. It suggested that if government spent little money on these programs each year, the number of participants would highly increase.
All in all, by following the two ideas mentioned above, I strongly believe that for the development of whole country, government should spend more money for universities and colleges. |
