It is often said that cooking at home is better than dining out. Some people might agree with this view in that home-made food is generally conceived to be more nutritious. On the other hand, others hold the view that going to restaurants or food stands is more beneficial. I agree with the later opinion with my two reasons. Eating out allows people to save time and to get them culturally socialized.
First of all, having a meal in restaurants save people's precise time. In general, eating home-made requirespeople to spend some time, preparing ingredients, cooking and cleaning the dishes. For example, when I was a junior in a university, I decided to cook on my own, not buying campus meals in order to save money. I had to waste at least two hours on average to have mealeveryday. It also disturbed my studying by making me tired as well as taking studying time off. Had I have bought campus meals, I would have had much more hours to review or preview lectures.
In addition, exposing oneself to many different ethnic dishes allows people to widen one's culture view. The way of eating is different across the countries. Thus, experiencing diverse foods help to have better understanding each other. One of my African friends, "Jim", can serve as the best example for this. When I saw him in class of high school, he seemed to be very dirty and ugly. Moreover, he ate foods with his left hands, which looked very odd in Korea. While all my peers in a class were shocked by actually seeing someone who do not use utensil, I sit nest to him and had a meal together. In fact, I already experienced eating by hands during my stay in Africa, so I acknowledged that it must be natural way for him. In this sense, there is no doubt that having diverse dishes made me understand others better.
In conclusion, all things considered, having a meal outside house is a better idea than preparing meals at home. eating out is time-saving and a good way to learn about other cultures. Therefore, the benefits that one can get from eating out should not be underestimated.
