According to a study, 78 percentage of people living in US believes that any powerful person can influence the news media to be biased or unbiased. Either it is intentially or unintentially biased, most of the news media contains biased information that is informed wrongly. From my point of view, I personally believe that news media does not provide reliable source of unbiased information; they are mostly biased, because some news media are willing to convey a particular political view and want to make money out of the news.
To begin with, news media are influenced by politics. Most of the people in the US believes that a powerful person can have impacts on news media, as mentioned earlier. Some news media supports some political views. For example, a news media, CNN, supports one particular political view. According to a research conducted by News Media Center, people who reads CNN newspaper thinks completely different from people who reads other rather unbiased newspapers. To support my point more, when there was a war between Iraq and US, most of the news media described the situationd differently. From a same situation, there can be various of versions of the situation that can be told to people; thus, news media is not very reliable.
In addition, news media becomes biased source of information, because it is a business for the news media companies. The purpose of doing business is to gain and earn money out of it. This applies to newspapers and TV news as well. They have to make money and there happens the bias. To give an example, some newspapers have a heading that is absolutely different from the content that is belong to. This happens because most of the newspaper readers only look at the main title. The newsmedia knows this fact and they try to put some strong and attractive words in the heading so that people will buy the newspaper. They just exaggerate their information and tries to draw the attention from the readers in order to maximize their profits. This also proves that information conveyed via news media are not always authentic and credible.
To sum up my points, since news media wants to maximize their profit through news that is biased, I firmly blieve that news media is an unreliable source of information. You can never be sure of the information that you encounter is true or not. It would be wise for people that they read quite of lot of newspapers so that they know exactly what and how situations are told, either with biased or unbiased information. |
